The art of tattooing and decorating people's bodies has been practiced from a very long time. The history of tattoos is very ancient and seems to be of thousands of years old even before the birth of Christ. The early Egyptians, American red Indians all the way to New Zealand formed different styles. In New Zealand they developed a facial style of tattooing called Moko which is still being used today. There is evidence that the Mayan, Incas, and Aztecs used tattooing in the rituals.

Even the isolated tribes in Alaska practiced tattooing, their style indicating it was learned from the Ainu. Over the years right up to present time the art of tattooing has been developed to such that many famous people have an emblem of art tattooed on their bodies. Slowly the art of tattooing passed the stigma that only criminals and bad people have them and is now regarded as a form of art.

The first electronic tattoo machine was invented by an American tattoo artist names Samuel O'Reilly in 1980, which gave birth to the new era of tattooing in which people started to have different kind of tattoos on varioys parts of their bodies. The popularity of tattoo gained its current weight age after many years of its existence and now one can find tattoo as fashion symbol rather than simple mark.
